When it comes to exploring Florida in the summer, it's worth seeking out one of Florida's many Springs. Springs are scattered throughout the state, offering a unique opportunity to cool down and relax on a hot summer day. This post is your Florida Springs Guide for cooling down on a hot Florida day.

Florida Springs are natural occurrences where, as part of the water cycle, groundwater emerges from Florida's aquifer creating pools that are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing. These springs maintain a year-round 72 degree average water temperature, making them ideal for a refreshing dip even on the hottest summer days. In addition to swimming and floating, one of the most popular activities is snorkeling. You'll likely see a variety of fish, plants, manatees, turtles, and even experience the flow of water pumping from the spring vent. For those looking to explore at greater depths, scuba diving is a popular option but cave exploration should only be attempted with proper training and typically requires a special permit.

Apart from water activities, many Florida Springs are surrounded by conservation land and hiking trails, making them ideal for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Because Florida can be very hot, stay hydrated and take short hikes followed by long dips in the cool water. One Florida Spring our family always enjoys is Wekiwa Springs in Apopka Florida. Here the short hikes are easy for all fitness levels and the water is always refreshing.

The sights and sounds of the Florida Springs are sure to leave you feeling rejuvenated and connected to the natural world. So, whether you're a Florida native looking to explore your own backyard or a visitor seeking an authentic natural experience, be sure to add a trip to a local Florida Springs to your itinerary. Visit the Florida State Park website to find a Spring near you and to learn what activities are available (note swimming is not available at some sites).

FLORIDA NATIVE LIFE TIP:

The distance from the parking area to the spring may be more than what some visitors expect, and the trail could be rough, so please be aware and mindful of your footing. Consider bringing a small bag/cooler and leave extra items in the car. If you have a large cooler, rather than carrying it all the way to the water, just leave it in the car and come back to have lunch at a nearby picnic spot.
